Morgan Wallen to appear in court later this summer for chair-tossing arrest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Country music star Morgan Wallen didn't have to show face at his hearing Friday morning, but he is expected appear at his next court date in August. The “Sand in My Boots” singer is charged with felony reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct charges for throwing a chair from the rooftop of Chief's bar last month. The chair landed about three feet away from where a few Metro Police officers were standing.

Southmont celebrates 47th annual jubilee

SOUTHMONT, Pa. (WJAC) — The 47th annual Southmont Volunteer Fire Company Jubilee held its annual parade Thursday. The event began at the Westmont Elementary School and made its way to the jubilee grounds on State Street. Each year, people line the streets for the parade and then head to the festival grounds for entertainment, food and rides. This is a special year for Southmont, as the borough celebrates its centennial.

Cambria County officials react to five county employees receiving "very large yearend bonuses"

Cambria County controller Ed Cernic Jr. said about $70,000 went to five county employees at the end of last year. The people are getting the stipends in large part because of the additional work they did after former chief clerk Michael Gelles died in April last year. The county is still without a chief clerk. Officials said the employees role in implementing a new software system. Cernic said he is the one that proposed the idea to the commissioners and when the salary board, made of the commissioners and the controller, voted on the stipends at the last commissioners meeting of 2023, the stipends passed with a 3-1 vote.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Travis Konecny had his first career hat trick to lead the Philadelphia Flyers past the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2. The Flyers did lose team MVP Sean Couturier to an unspecified injury. Couturier was plowed into the boards and may have hurt his left shoulder. He left after just two shifts and 45 seconds. He scored 22 goals last season and won the Selke Award as the NHL's top defensive forward.

Philly activist who acknowledged helping flip police car during 2020 protest sentenced to 1 year in

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A well-known west Philadelphia activist who acknowledged having helped overturn a police car during 2020 protests following the death of George Floyd has been sentenced to a year in prison. Anthony Smith was sentenced Tuesday following a guilty plea in June to a federal charge of obstructing law enforcement during a civil disorder, which included aiding and abetting an arson, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Smith acknowledged having helped others flip a vacant Philadelphia police car over outside City Hall on May 31, 2020.

Police release new photos, video of Johnstown bank robbery suspect

2nd UPDATE |CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Police are continuing to search for the suspect accused of robbing the First Commonwealth Bank in Johnstown Wednesday afternoon. Authorities say the suspect reportedly fled the scene in the direction of Osborne Street. On Thursday, police released additional photos of the suspect, as well as nearby surveillance video of him fleeing the scene. If you have an American flag that needs disposed of, don’t just throw it away. That’s what Cambria County American Legion members say. They say there’s an easy way to get rid of your old flag in a respectful way. Mark Holsinger with the Richland American Legion says, “if you have an unusable flag and you’d like to get rid of itwe’ll take care of it for you.” Outside of most VFW or American Legion posts, you can find boxes labeled for flag disposal.

Centre County robotics team gets world recognition

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – A big weekend in Detroit, with many local school districts traveling to the Motor City to compete. More than 15,000 students from around the world went head-to-head with robots, built from scratch. A team in State College was part of the winning group that brought home the title. The Centre County team was part of the winning alliance to win the FIRST Robotics world championship. The Centre County 4-H Robotics Team won along with Stryke Force from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Team Rush from Clarkston, Michigan, and Lake Effect Robotics from Kingston, Ontario.
