Altoona City Council introduces increase of fire department equipment lease to 4 million

The Altoona City Council met on Monday night to discuss a plethora of new ordinances.

One of these ordinances is the increase of an equipment lease purchase agreement for new fire department equipment such as pumper and ladder fire trucks.

The increase is going from 2 million to 4 million dollars. Councilmembers cited that the idea behind the ordinance is to be able to upkeep the department’s vehicles on a regular basis.

“So, we’re currently looking at a piece of equipment that will take us beyond that 2 million dollar limit so we needed to update the limit basically," said Altoona City Manager, Omar Strohm. "Fire department vehicles are extremely expensive. They’re large and they’re costly like everything else is these days but that’s the reason behind that and the purpose for a part of the meeting tonight.”

The ordinance will be up for adoption at the next Altoona city council meeting on December 5th.
