Bellefonte police chief resigns amidst loss of three other officers

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Bellefonte Borough police chief Shawn Weaver has reportedly resigned amidst controversary surrounding the police department.

Two other officers recently resigned from the force, and a third retired in January.

Bellefonte Borough Council met Monday night, however, the borough's police situation was reportedly not addressed.

In the past, the Bellefonte police force has included upwards of ten to twelve officers.

The now former police chief had served in the role since 2006.

Bellefonte Borough council is holding a meeting Monday night as more questions are being asked about the borough's police force.

In recent weeks, two Bellefonte officers resigned, and a third retired in January.

The reasons for the resignations are not being publicly disclosed, amidst talk of a possible investigation.

In the past, the Bellefonte police force has included ten to twelve officers.

The borough council does have an executive session scheduled before Monday night's public meeting.

Shawn Weaver has been the chief of the Bellefonte police since 2006.
