Apartment fire in Jefferson County leaves four families displaced

The fire marshal is investigating after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Jefferson County Friday, leaving four families displaced, officials said.

According to Perry Township Fire Chief Tim Fetterhoff, crews were dispatched around 4 p.m. Friday to an apartment building along Route 536 in Perry Township.

Officials stated that crews arrived on scene to fire coming out of about every window on the upper level of the building.

Officials said the siding was melting on a building across Route 536 from the heat.

Fetterhoff said several other fire departments were on scene, including Ringgold, Oliver Township, Summerville, Lindsey, Central, Elk Run, McCalmont Township, Dayton, Knox Township, Big Run, Dayton, Mahaffey, and Hawthorne.

Fetterhoff also said that all no residents or firefighters were injured and all residents made it out of the building, along two pets, but several other pets were lost in the fire.

Edison Yeager said he is the building manager and has lived in one of the apartments for about four years.

"I'm very thankful that everything turned out like it did," Yeager said. "I know everybody lost everything but they can be replaced down the road."

Yeager said anyone looking to help the displaced families can contact him at (814) 249-5398.

Officials said the fire marshal is still investigating a cause but it does not seem to be suspicious.
