Hit-and-run crash spills ice cream on PA Turnpike; roadway closed for over 6 hours

State police say a section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, in Somerset Township, was closed for over 6 hours early Wednesday morning following a hit-and-run crash involving a truck hauling ice cream.

Police say the crash occurred just before 1 a.m. near the 110.6 mile marker, according to the crash report.

Investigators say a flatbed tractor-trailer was traveling in the right-hand lane and was attempting to pass the truck hauling ice cream when it crossed into the left lane and struck the other truck.

Police say the driver of the truck hauling the ice cream reportedly lost control and overturned.

Troopers say the Turnpike was closed for over six hours while crews worked to remove the truck and its load of spilled ice cream.

Authorities say the flatbed truck reportedly fled the scene of the crash and was traveling east towards Bedford.

The truck is described as a dark colored, older model flatbed tractor-trailer with blue and black tarps.

Police say the driver of the truck hauling the ice cream was transported to Conemaugh Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Anyone with information regarding the hit-and-run incident is asked to contact state police at 814-445-9606.
