Hims CEO walks back job offer for campus protesters after stock price tumbles

Andrew Dudum, CEO of the men’s telehealth service Hims, walked back his bold offer to hire students expelled for protesting in favor of Palestine in a lengthy social media post Sunday.

On social media last week, Dudum urged pro-Palestine student protesters not to fear disciplinary action from their schools, claiming many companies are looking forward to hiring them. He noted "moral courage" trumps a "college degree."

Hims stock took a nosedive following the remark, falling over 8% in a matter of hours.

The last few days have been a disheartening reflection of just how divisive a time we live in,” Dudum wrote Sunday. “I’d like to clarify a few things because my words have been misconstrued by some.”

He continued, noting he does not condone violence or antisemitism, but said he supports the right to peaceful protest.

“This right is critical to our democracy and must be protected,” the Wharton-educated CEO wrote. “Our world today is more just because students throughout history have courageously taken to their campuses and used their voices to force change.”

Dudum also resurfaced a line from his November 2023 opinion piece on Medium which mentioned him being the father of children descendent from both “Palestinian refugees who fled the Nakba in 1948” and “Holocaust survivors.”

I hope and pray for peace and for an end to violence everywhere,” he closed.

Dudum has frequently reposted X posts from pro-Palestinian voices, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. In January, Dudum tagged Anne Wojcicki, CEO of 23andMe, in a post chastising her service for not listing him as being descendent from Palestinians.

“The systematic erasure of Palestinians is everywhere,” Dudum wrote. “I just completed a @23andMe report. They don’t even show Palestine, despite both sides of my family lineage dating back & documented in Jaffa, Jerusalem and Ramallah to the time of Christ.”
