Bedford Co. EMA director retires after 20 years

Dozens of Bedford County government employees came together Monday to say goodbye and congratulate the county’s long time EMA director, Dave Cubbison, on his retirement.

Cubbison spent the last 20 years serving the people of the county, and has led them through numerous disasters, such as the aftermath of “Super Storm” Jonas and the Hyndman train derailment.

He says that the job has been extremely rewarding for him, and that it has been a pleasure working for the county.

“There has been a lot of benefits to this. There is a lot of personal growth, a lot of educational opportunities. I have learned so much. A lot of what I have learned over the last twenty years is people; and how to deal with people. The people of this county are resilient.”

Cubbison says the agency is being left in capable hands with the new director.

He also plans on remaining active within the community.
