Historic PA poaching bull on display in Elk County

BENEZETTE - Killed unlawfully in a 2014 poaching spree, one of the largest bull elk in Pennsylvania history is making its way back to the state's elk range as part of a traveling display of exceptional elk. A mount of the bull known as the Historic Pennsylvania Poaching Bull is part of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's Great Elk Tour. The tour arrived at the Winslow Hill Viewing Area in Benezette, Elk County on last Saturday.

Kohl's offering military discount every Monday

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Kohl’s announced Thursday the department store will be launching a new initiative called Military Mondays, which will offer in-store discounts to those who served our country. The store says it’s a way to celebrate and thank active and former military personnel, veterans and their families for their selflessness and service. On its website, Kohl's says a 15% discount is valid in its stores every Monday, all year long, when customers show a valid military ID, military dependent ID or veteran ID.

Penn State board approves pay hike for university president

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — The president of Penn State is getting a 2.5% salary increase and trustees are making it retroactive to the beginning of July. The Board of Trustees on Friday voted unanimously to boost Eric Barron's base pay to $855,000 a year. He's been Penn State's top administrator since 2014. The Centre Daily Times says that together with an annual retention bonus of $200,000, Barron will be paid more than $1 million.

The Punxsutawney Memorial Library is experiencing staffing shortages and the cancellation of library programs. Widespread power outage reported in Altoona

ALTOONA -- Many Altoona residents are without power Sunday night due to a widespread power outage. Blair County Non-emergency says callers began reporting problems around 6:30 p.m. According to an Altoona Firefighters Facebook page, there was an underground explosion inside a vault on 15th Street, causing the outages. Penelec is on scene trying to restore power. There is no estimated restoration time. Altoona Police are asking people to avoid downtown if possible while the problem is resolved.

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities say the former CEO and administrator of a DuBois-based retirement community is facing dozens of charges, accused of stealing or misappropriating tens of thousands of dollars from the senior living home. According to Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers, 64-year-old Samuel Zaffuto, of DuBois, faces multiple counts of corrupt organizations, theft by failing to make proper deposit of funds, theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and fraud.
