Altoona City Council introduces increase of fire department equipment lease to 4 million

The Altoona City Council met on Monday night to discuss a plethora of new ordinances. One of these ordinances is the increase of an equipment lease purchase agreement for new fire department equipment such as pumper and ladder fire trucks. The increase is going from 2 million to 4 million dollars. Councilmembers cited that the idea behind the ordinance is to be able to upkeep the department’s vehicles on a regular basis.

Lakemont Park Holiday Lights on the Lake returns for 27th season

Holiday Lights on the Lake returns to Lakemont Park in Altoona for it's 27th season and will be featuring traditional and new displays, along with treats from 150 sponsors, a press release states. According to a press release by the park, Holiday Lights on the Lake will be open from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. daily November 17th through January 7. The event will feature traditions such as the Avenue of Trees, Tunnel of Lights and cinnamon nuts by Nuts for You while also enjoying some new ceramic LED illuminated displays.

New video shows hours long riot at Cambria County Prison, played during prelim hearing

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — An update to a story we’ve been following since last year, when a riot broke out at the Cambria County Prison. Friday was the preliminary hearing for 20 inmates who are all facing multiple charges related to the prison riot at the Cambria County Prison which took place in October. In October 2020, a group of inmates at the Cambria County Prison began to riot in their unit leading to several law enforcement officials, from local and state agencies to respond to the situation.

The doors to the Towne Manor Motel are officially closed

The doors to the Towne Manor Motel in Johnstown are officially closed and the residents are out. This comes days after city officials decided to condemn the building due to poor living conditions. The city of Johnstown posted the legal notice on the door to the motel earlier this week – giving residents only forty-eight hours to leave the premises. On Friday, Cambria County officials were there assisting those residents with a new place to stay.

Akeel Lynch transferring; Former TE Breneman hired as campaign manager

STATE COLLEGE---Penn State running back Akeel Lynch announced Wednesday he will transfer for his final season of eligibility. Lynch was the starting running back to begin the season, but lost playing time due to injuries and the emergence of true freshman Saquon Barkley. In a letter posted on his Twitter account Wednesday Lynch thanked his Penn State coaches, Joe Paterno, Bill O'Brien and James Franklin. Lynch was considered a mentor to the younger running backs this past season.

Penn State, football coach James Franklin agree to 10-year contract extension

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — Penn State’s James Franklin has agreed to the terms of a new 10-year contract to remain as the head football coach of the Nittany Lions through 2031. The terms were approved by the Subcommittee on Compensation of the Penn State Board of Trustees Tuesday. The new contract increases his pay from $5.5 million this year to $7 million per year, plus an annual $500,000 retention bonus at the end of each calendar year and other performance bonuses.

Suspected shoplifter made 4 trips into store in 3 days and was arrested twice
