JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Maurice Stokes was a dominant force during his career at St. Francis College in the mid-1950s.
He led St. Francis to the national invitational tournament in 1955, and despite a fourth-place finish, he earned Most Valuable Player honors.
After his career with the Red Flash, Stokes then starred for three years with the NBA's Cincinnati Royals, but during the last game of the 1958 season, he suffered a head injury.

EBENSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities responded to a fatal crash along Plank Road in East Carroll Township, according to the Cambria County Coroner's Office. According to state police, one person was killed.
Authorities say the crash happened along Plank Road near Main Street Monday morning. According to an initial investigation, state police believe the car hit an embankment while trying to exit Plank Road. The car went airborne and hit a billboard pole, according to state police.

The Robeson County Sheriff's Office announced Monday that it had requested assistance from the United States Attorney's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in South Carolina in the Mica Miller investigation. In a statement released Monday, the sheriff's office said they have been in contact with both agencies since the early stages of the investigation.
JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown police officer who overdosed more than 11 months ago inside police headquarters was arraigned Thursday morning.
William Scott Slisz, 34, of the 200 block of Ligonier Pike, Johnstown, waived his charges to court after being arraigned by District Magistrate Michael Muslin.
He faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, burglary, criminal trespassing/breaking into a structure.
Slisz, who faces six felony and three misdemeanor charges overall, was released on his own recognizance.

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Officials say one person was trapped after a tractor-trailer overturned on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Somerset County.
The crash happened on the ramp for Exit 110 westbound, officials say.
The ramp was closed as crews worked to rescue the person trapped in the vehicle.
Authorities have not confirmed any injuries.
None of the turnpike lanes were affected.

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — State police say they’re investigating after a Johnstown man had his wheelchair stolen while fishing in Bedford County.
Troopers say the 72-year-old man was fishing in the area of Evitts Creek Road and Thomas Koon Dam in Bedford Township Friday when his Black Quantum Power Wheelchair, worth about $9,200, was stolen from the back of his vehicle.
State police say they are looking for a Red new model Dodge Ram believed to be involved in the theft.
